Stumpdle IPL Wordle FAQ

Yes. Stumpdle is a Wordle for cricket, an IPL Wordle. Like the original Wordle you get one puzzle a day, a limited number of guesses and colour-coded feedback after each guess. The twist is that the answer is a mystery IPL cricketer instead of a five-letter word, and the clues compare team, role, nationality, age, debut and trophies.

Each day you have 7 guesses to identify the daily IPL player. Type a name into the search bar, pick a player, and the grid reveals how close each attribute is.

Green means an exact match for that column. Amber means close. Red means no match.

On Age, Debut and Trophies, ⬆️ means the answer is higher than your guess (older, later debut, more titles), ⬇️ means it is lower.

Team is the only overlap-based column. It turns green if your guess and the answer share at least one IPL franchise across their entire careers. The cell shows only the common teams. Once any franchise matches, the Played For slot in the Facts Unlocked strip lists all matched franchises plus the total number of teams the answer has played for.

Whenever a column gets an exact (green) match, the Facts Unlocked strip fills in the answer's value: accumulated franchises under Played For, Role, Nationality, Age bucket, Debut year, Trophy count and Status. On desktop the column headers also update, except Played For, which lives only in the strip. It saves you scrolling back through old rows to remember what you've locked in.

A role is handedness + primary role + specialization. Green is a perfect three-way match. Amber means the role and specialization are identical but the handedness differs (e.g. Left-Handed Batter ↔ Right-Handed Batter, Left-Handed Spin Bowler ↔ Right-Handed Spin Bowler). Any other mismatch (different primary role, different specialization, or both) is red.

Half-open: <20, 20–24, 25–29, 30–34, 35+. Each age belongs to exactly one bucket. We use the player's current age.

We sum every IPL title won by any franchise the player has been part of at any point in their career. So a player who has been on two championship-winning rosters gets credit for both.

Players who appeared in the most recent completed IPL season or are currently on a franchise squad. Everyone else is Retired.

A new player rolls over at your local midnight. The puzzle is keyed to your device's local date.

Yes, the puzzle is keyed to the calendar date, so everyone on the same local date is guessing the same player. Timezones one day ahead/behind will see their own day's puzzle.

Your streak counts consecutive solved days. If you miss a day or fail to solve, the streak resets on your next win.

Yes. After finishing, use Challenge a Friend to send a spoiler-free emoji grid (like Wordle) plus a link to the same puzzle straight to WhatsApp, X or Messages, or copy it to your clipboard.

Yes. Second Innings lets you replay any past puzzle without affecting your daily streak or stats. Open Second Innings.

Every IPL player from 2008 onward who has played at least 10 IPL matches, including retired players and players from defunct franchises (Deccan Chargers, Pune Warriors, Kochi Tuskers, Gujarat Lions, Rising Pune Supergiants).

Strict counting ("was on the championship roster that season") is more accurate but much harder to source and verify. We use the simpler rule "any title from any team the player has ever played for" so the data is consistent and verifiable.
