How to Play Stumpdle, the IPL Wordle

Guess today's mystery IPL player in 7 tries. Like Wordle, every guess gives you colour-coded clues that narrow down who it is.

Taking guard

You have 7 guesses to identify the daily IPL player. The answer pool is every player in IPL history who has played at least 10 IPL matches. You can guess any player from the same pool.

Type a name into the search bar and pick a player from the suggestions. After each guess, every column reveals how close you are to the answer.

Color guide

  • Green:exact match for that column.
  • Amber:close, but not exact.
  • Red:no match.

Free hits

If your 3rd or 5th guess is wrong, we'll automatically reveal one extra category (e.g. nationality, role, or debut year) that you haven't cracked yet. Use it to home in on the answer.

Columns

  • Played For (Team):every IPL franchise the player has ever represented. Green if your guess and the answer share at least one common franchise; the cell shows only the common teams. Red if no overlap. Once any team matches, the column header reveals the matched franchises and the total number of teams the answer has played for.
  • Role:handedness + primary role (Batter / Bowler / All-Rounder / Wicketkeeper Batter) + specialization (Pace / Spin / Batting / Bowling where applicable). Green is an exact match. Amber means the role and specialization are identical but the handedness is opposite. Any other mismatch is red.
  • Nationality:exact match or no match.
  • Age:current age, bucketed:<20, 20–24, 25–29, 30–34, 35+. Green same bucket; amber adjacent bucket. ↑ means the answer is older, ↓ younger.
  • Debut:IPL debut season (year). Green exact; amber within 2 years. ↑ later debut, ↓ earlier debut.
  • Trophies:total IPL titles won by any franchise the player has ever been part of. Green exact; amber within 1. ↑ more, ↓ fewer.
  • Status:Active or Retired.

Difficulty meter

The gauge above the board hints at how tough today's answer is. The fewer IPL matches the mystery player has played, the harder it is to guess, so the needle leans toward the red.
